There is a passage of scripture I want to look at for a moment and break down a few things from it.
“for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.””
Luke 19:10 NKJV
Seek and save THAT which was lost. So what is THAT? To get better understanding I believe we have to start at the beginning and gather clues as to what was lost.
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
So here we see God saying let us create man in our image and let him have DOMINION over
every living thing upon the earth and that is exactly what He did was created male and female and blessed them and gave them dominion over every living thing upon the earth. 2 important words here in this passage that I want to highlight Blessed, and dominion we see two things that were given here blessing and dominion.
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.”
Genesis 2:7-8 NKJV
In this passage we see that God forms man and breathed the breath of life into him and he became a living being and put man in a garden called Eden. Points I want to highlight from these verses are Life and placed him in the garden of Eden. So two more things given to man life and Eden. As we continue on these points and clues make more and more sense.

“So the LORD God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.” Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”
Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”
Genesis 3:14-19, 22-24 NKJV
In these verses we are moving towards the answers we are seeking, we begin to see a conversation between God, serpent, Adam and Eve. God says because of the choices they made there was now a curse upon them, dominion was traded, set out of Eden, and separated from life. So death had entered (the wages of sin is death Romans 6:23), they had gone from blessed to cursed, dominion was sacrificed and they had been kicked out of or separated from the presence of God and paradise(Eden)
Good news though Jesus came to seek and save THAT which was lost! He came to restore/recover these things that Adam had traded or lost.
The curse was reversed- cursed is everyone that hangs upon a tree (Galatians 3:13)
Death to Life- Jesus said I am the way the truth and the Life! (John 14:6) Jesus said I came that you may have life and life more abundantly! (John 10:10) Life and blessing restored
Kicked out of paradise and separated from the presence of God- Veil torn giving direct access back to the presence of God. During the lifetime of Jesus, the holy temple in Jerusalem was the center of Jewish religious life. The temple was the place where animal sacrifices were carried out and worship according to the Law of Moses was followed faithfully. Hebrews 9:1-9 tells us that in the temple a veil separated the Holy of Holies—the earthly dwelling place of God’s presence—from the rest of the temple where men dwelt. This signified that man was separated from God by sin (Isaiah 59:1-2). Only the high priest was permitted to pass beyond this veil once each year (Exodus 30:10; Hebrews 9:7) to enter into God’s presence for all of Israel and make atonement for their sins (Leviticus 16).
-Jesus said on the cross to the thief next to him today you shall be with me in paradise (Luke 23:43) representing restoration of Eden
Jesus said IT is finished (John 19:30) signifying He had paid the price for the sin of the entire world and carried out the will of the Father (John 3:16) salvation, redemption, restoration of the original design. We are now seated with Christ at the right hand (signifies power and dominion) of the Father, we are a royal priesthood, Jesus said ““Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Luke 10:19 NKJV
He restored the the dominion not only on earth but also authority in Heaven, (Matthew 18:18)
